Google released Gemini 4 Argon on 13 October 2026 and describes it as its latest frontier model. It is available through the Gemini API and AI Studio, in the Gemini app for Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers, in Google Antigravity, and through Gemini for business.
Price, and the date to note
Google lists an introductory price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. After 30 November 2026 the listed price rises to $4 and $20. If you plan to test it at volume, the cheap window is short, which is a good reason to run your evaluation now rather than in January.
One model so far
Google's announcement names Argon only. Other models in a Gemini 4 family are described as future releases, so do not plan around sizes that have not shipped.
Who should look at it
- Businesses already on Google Workspace: Gemini for business is the easiest way to try it with your own documents, mail and calendar.
- Teams comparing vendors: a second strong model lets you test the same task on two providers and keep your options open.
- Developers building agents: the Gemini API is a direct alternative or backup to Claude and OpenAI models.
How to compare it fairly
- Pick 30 to 50 real tasks from your business.
- Run them on Gemini 4 Argon and on the model you use today, with the same instructions.
- Score the answers, and note speed and cost per task.
- Check data handling terms: where your data is processed, whether it is used for training, and what your contract says.
Avoid lock-in
Do not rebuild your whole agent around one vendor's model. Keep the model as a setting, keep your prompts and test cases in your own files, and you can move when the market moves. In 2026 it moves every few weeks.
Benchmarks in launch posts come from the vendors themselves. Treat them as a reason to test, not as a result.
