On 14 October 2026 Anthropic announced that it has opened an office in Singapore and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Singapore. It is the maker of the Claude models.
What is confirmed
The announcement says there is a new Singapore office and an MOU with the government. We have not seen detailed terms beyond the announcement, so we will not guess at specific programmes, grants or pricing. When details are published, they will be on Anthropic's own news page.
Why it matters in general
- Local presence: a vendor with people in Singapore is easier to reach for enterprise support, procurement and partnership questions.
- Signal for adoption: government agreements usually encourage public sector and large company use, and smaller firms follow where tools become familiar.
- Talent and training: a local team often means more events, workshops and partner programmes over time.
What does not change for a small business today
You can use Claude through its apps and API now, wherever you are. An office does not change the price list or what the models can do. Your decisions still depend on your tasks: what you want automated, what data is involved, and who checks the output.
Questions to ask before you build
- What customer data will the agent see, and is it allowed to leave Singapore under your contracts and the PDPA?
- Which tasks are safe to automate, and which need a person to approve?
- What happens when the model is wrong? Who finds out and how fast?
- Can you switch to another model if terms or prices change?
Our view
More local vendor presence is good news for Singapore businesses building with AI. The practical work is the same as before: choose a small, valuable first use case, test with real examples, keep a person in the loop for risky steps, and measure the result.
